Side Scan Sonar Training
Side Scan Sonar systems are the most effective tool available to Marine Units and PSD teams for locating objects under the water's surface. To effectively use side scan sonar systems, teams must understand basic sonar theory, environmental impacts on sonar performance, sonar image interpretation, system settings, sonar employment, sonar search planning, and boat operations. A significant component of effective side scan sonar operations is ensuring the team operates in the correct search area. An often-overlooked aspect of sonar operations is interviewing witnesses and gathering scene intel. As some cases may involve a criminal element, crime scene/evidence collection and documentation of the search for possible court presentation should not be over-looked.
