    Please note: Wearing a mask is recommended for those who are not fully vaccinated. What are green and yellow, have a hard shell and look awesome? The Blanding’s turtles of Isle a la Cache! Meet one of our three turtles — Taco, H3 and Shirlee — up close as a naturalist brings out a turtle from the exhibit tank for closer viewing. Learn the story of their journey as an endangered species and all about Blanding’s turtles. This is a drop-in program; come anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. No registration required.

  2. Isle a la Cache Museum presents Island Showcase & Food Truck Friday

    Please note: Wearing a mask is recommended for those who are not fully vaccinated. Celebrate the completion of the new, outdoor Native American lifeways exhibit and see all the recent improvements around the preserve! Tour the American Indian longhouse and exhibits that explore the lifeways of the Potawatomi during the 18th century. Visit the museum that interprets the Fur Trade Era of the 1700s, and stop by the Traders Cabin to take a step back in time. The new exhibit was made possible through a Public Museum Capital Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The fun will continue with a special Food Truck Friday at the beautiful new Island picnic shelter, overlooking the Des Plaines River. Here's the food truck lineup: Rogue Curbside Kitchen, Grumpy Gaucho, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Metal Monkey Brewing. Exhibits will be open for viewing from 4 to 7 p.m., and food trucks and Metal Monkey Brewing will be serving from 4 to 8 p.m. No registration required.

In recognition of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, join us for the “Animal Olympics” at Isle a la Cache Museum. Learn about Illinois animals that are excellent at moving fast, balancing and hopping. Test your own skills and strengths compared to what animals can do.   1. O'Hara Woods Volunteer Workday

    Come join The Conservation Foundation and the Friends of O’Hara Woods improve the ecological health of O’Hara Woods at our monthly volunteer workday. Activities include cutting invasive brush, burning brush piles, pulling garlic mustard, and collecting seed from native plants. No prior experience is necessary. The address to O’Hara Woods is 524 Belmont Dr., Romeoville, and we will be meeting in the parking lot off of Beverly J. Griffin Dr. (to the southwest of Lake Strini). If you plan to attend, please bring a water bottle, a pair of work gloves (we will have extra), and dress for the weather. Loppers and all other equipment will be provided. *We will be following Phase 4 guildelines per Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and participants should practice social distancing.
