***PROJECT UPDATE***
The intersection of Belmont and 135th Street will remain closed until further notice as the utility project continues. The intersection will be temporarily opened for the A. Vito Martinez graduation on May 24th to help traffic flow. It will be closed again following the event. We thank you for your continued patience.
Starting this Saturday (5/13), the entire intersection of 135th St. and Belmont will be closed to traffic in all directions for sewer main work as part of the ongoing project. Signage will clearly mark detours. The contractor understands the critical nature of this location and is hopeful that the work can be completed within five days of closure if everything goes as planned. The police department will be providing officer assistance during morning and afternoon school pickup/drop-off to help keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible. We know this is a major inconvenience and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important infrastructure work.
Beginning on May 1, the existing water and sewer mains located on 135th Street from Arsenal Road to Macon Avenue will be replaced. The full project scope includes water main, storm and sanitary sewer replacements.
Traffic on 135th Street from Belmont to Macon will be closed to thru traffic and on-street parking will NOT be allowed for the duration of the project. Detours will be clearly marked with signs. The contractor performing this work will maintain residential driveway access during this large-scale project and will communicate with residents when access may be limited. Current school bus drop-off/pickup locations will remain unchanged.
Please have garbage and recycling totes out before 6:00 a.m on your pickup day to allow Waste Management access before work starts.
The project is expected to take several months for completion and multiple measures will be put in place to limit the impact on our residents. Work will be carried out Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A map of the project area is below. We appreciate your patience during this critical infrastructure maintenance project. For questions or concerns regarding this project, please feel free to contact Public Works at (815) 886-1870, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
