The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the Romeoville Metra station was selected to receive a $296,700 grant as a part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP).
The grant, which comes from federal government funds, will be used to complete a path for walking and biking south of 135th Street and help pay for the installation of lighting along the multi-use path, a nearby access road, sidewalks, platforms, and a warming shelter.
“I want to thank Representative Lipinski for his leadership and support in helping to bring this project closer to reality,” said Mayor John Noak. “The new station will benefit not just the Village of Romeoville but the entire region. I look forward to continuing to work with the Congressman to help with projects such as this that improve both the local economy and the overall quality of life of area residents,” he added.
The Metra station will be located at 135th Street and New Avenue. Construction on the new Metra station is expected to begin in spring of next year.
