Mayor Noak presented the Annual Romeoville State of the Village Address to a record breaking crowd on February 9th. 2016 was a phenomenal year for the Village of Romeoville with major developments coming in 2017.
Noak highlighted numerous projects from 2016 which resulted in a total value of over $200 Million and added 2,300 jobs which is the highest total in a single year. The coming year is anticipated to be equally successful with more recreation opportunities, transportation enhancement projects, major corridor improvements and additional jobs. Recreation projects highlighted for 2017 will be the development of Discovery Park and additional fields in conjunction with JJC. Together the two projects will create over 45 acres of new recreational opportunities and space. Transportation highlights included a corridor improvement plan along Route 53, construction of the Metra station which will begin in April and an update on the I55 Weber Road Interchange project.
The revenue generated by the booming development in Romeoville has assisted in keeping the Villages portion of the residential property taxes low and allowing the Village to construct several projects with cash on hand. As was discussed in the presentation, the typical homeowner pays less in 2016 than they did in 2007 on the Village portion of the property tax bill. Additionally, the Village has been able to more than double its cash on hand since 2008. All of this contributed to the Village receiving a bond rating upgrade from Fitch Ratings in 2016.
In conclusion, the Mayor hinted toward additional projects that the Village was unable to announce, that will be coming in 2017.
A video of the presentation will soon be available on the Village' s website and Comcast Channel 6 and UVerse Channel 99.
