Mission Statement
It is the intent of the Downtown Romeoville Redevelopment Commission, a public-private partnership, to create a multi-purpose activity area serving the community. Downtown Romeoville will be a town center with retail, office, civic uses and public spaces in a pedestrian friendly environment.
Where is Downtown Romeoville?
Although the Village of Romeoville lacks a “traditional” downtown area, the Village has a 40-acre established site that is defined as Downtown (Route 53 to Dalhart and Normantown to Alexander). The site was originally developed in the mid 1960’s and has seen various commercial and small business entities locate to the area over the past thirty years. The area has approximately 7 acres of undeveloped land with the remaining acres being developed without any formal planning specific to this area. Except for a strong street grid, the current environment more closely resembles the kind of aging strip centers that can be found along almost any suburban highway in the region.
Downtown Romeoville Redevelopment Commission
The Romeoville Downtown Committee is a group of concerned business people, landowners, residents, and municipal officials with the goal of revitalizing, upgrading & preserving Downtown Romeoville.
In order to guide the downtown redevelopment effort, a commission representing various stakeholders in the Village of Romeoville was formed. The Commission provides a sustained state of involvement, partnership, and hence, redevelopment. Through its cooperative effort, a variety of resources are being pooled in order to compile the necessary support for the physical and programmatic improvements needed to redevelop the Downtown area.
