Water Billing Frequently Asked Questions

Automated Water Meters

Automatic water meter readings call in your water meter read once a month. Check your water bill to make sure you are using an automated meter. If your bill is coded with "WA" you are using an Access Plus Meter . If your bill is coded with "EST" please call Romeoville Finance Department at 815-886-7200 to have an automated meter installed.

  • The Village will install your automated meter free of charge.
  • Your automated meter will allow your meter to be read every month without someone coming to your home.
  • Your automated meters can detect leaks that may inflate your water bill.
  • Your automated meter will provide consistent and accurate meter reads to ensure that you are billed properly.

For more information or to set up an appointment to have your automated meter installed, contact the Romeoville Finance Department at 815-886-7200 ext 450.

Closing Your Water Account

If you are moving and wish to close your water account you must arrange a final on-site meter read with the Village. Before you move out, call the Water Billing Department at 886-7200 to schedule an appointment to have a visual meter reading taken. Also, be prepared to give a forwarding address. Please call at least two days in advance. The water account will remain in your name until the final on-site meter read is conducted.

Please Note: Even if you have an Access Plus meter you still need to call to give your forwarding address and to schedule an appointment to have a visual final meter reading.

Irrigation Meters

Under Village Ordinance a household may purchase an irrigation meter for outside use. An irrigation meter is not charged with a sewage bill. However, it should be noted that purchasing an irrigation meter costs $300. In addition it is the responsibility of the homeowner to pay for installation through a state licensed plumber. Leak Detection

Leaky fixtures may dramatically increase your water bill. For example, a small drip from a leaky faucet can consume 15 to 22 gallons of water a day. Click for more information.
