Winter/Spring 2012
Dear Romeoville Residents,
As you may notice, this brochure is for two recreation sessions; winter and spring. Please make sure to keep this brochure through March so you have information needed to register
for spring programs.
Our Autumn Colors Craft Show was a success once again this year with over 100 crafters bringing a variety of crafts to the show. This is the largest attendance of crafters we have had to date for this event. Halloween Fest was a hauntingly good time for all who attended this event at Village Park. Children enjoyed a Trick-or-Treat Trail, a costume contest, a pumpkin patch, hay rides, inflatables and children's entertainment. This event is sponsored in part by the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make Winter Wonderland and Hope for the Holidays a success. The Recreation Department and Fat Ricky's teamed up to make this a free community event and to collect non-perishable food items for the annual Hope for the Holidays care packages. Children and their families enjoyed indoor and outdoor entertainment which featured inflatables, crafts, face painting, a book fair, reindeer, horse drawn wagon, and ice sculptures, while Santa hosted the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Lots of holiday fun was had by all!
Some upcoming events to look forward to during the winter and spring months include the Daddy Daughter Ball, Annual Open House, Breakfast with the Bunny and Easter Egg Hunt, Springtide Craft Show, Opening Day T-Ball Parade, Cinco de Mayo 5K Race, Community Garage Sale. Please page through our brochure for further information regarding these events.
The Village of Romeoville held a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Edward "Doc" McCartan Veteran's Memorial on November 4th. Residents are encouraged to stop and visit this renovated site that honors those who have served our country. The memorial is located at the intersection of Montrose Drive and Route 53.
The Village of Romeoville has completed the development of Boucher Prairie Park Phases II and III. Amenities at the completed park include an additional one-third mile loop to complete the half mile walking trail, a lighted shelter near the existing playground, a half basketball court, a practice baseball field with a backstop, fitness stations, an in-line hockey court, a splash pad, and a boardwalk and wetland overlook with interpretive signage and native plantings. Landscaping, berms, shade and ornamental plantings were planted throughout the park site. The site also includes a 22 stall parking lot. This project was funded in part by a
$393,000 OSLAD Grant from the state of Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The Village of Romeoville completed renovations at the Century Park baseball fields this past summer. The renovations give Romeoville youth players between the ages of 9 and 18
permanent home fields to play on.
The Village Park Pavilion to the north of the Recreation Center will be completed and ready for rental beginning in the spring of 2012. The new shelter will include additional picnic tables, baggo games, shuffle board, and an ADA accessible pathway to the shelter.
Look for new and exciting programs being offered for the winter/spring session including: Youth Boxing, Adult Cooking, Sports Cards and Collectible Show, science classes, Teen Friday Nights Out, and the Shipshewana Trip!
