Summer 2013
Summer is right around the corner and we’re so excited to offer you an array of exciting programs and events for you to enjoy! However, first I’d like to thank the many volunteers and staff that put on some fantastic events this past winter and spring season. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We started off the year by providing you with our 35th Annual Open House. This event allowed us an opportunity to provide you with demonstrations of the many wonderful programs available to you and your family. February brought the acclaimed “Daddy-Daughter Ball”. The 200+ attendees were able to get all gussied up, dance, have dinner, make crafts, take pictures in the photo-booth, and so much more! The Rec Center was full of cheering fans as we concluded our famous basketball leagues for Kindergarten through 12th graders in March. We also vamped up the spring event with Peter Rabbit by having an egg hunt with glow-in-the-dark eggs filled to the brim with treats for your little ones. Puppet shows, moon jumps, crafts and a jelly bean contest were onsite to keep everyone entertained. As many of you know, our craft fair is such a success that we have two per year! On April 20th, we had 100 crafters and artisans selling their wares - everything from candles, jewelry, crochet, floral arrangements, stamping items, pet accessories, household goods and more were available.
No summer is a success without finding treasures through the Community Garage Sale held on Saturday, May 11th. Every year we prepare a list of participating residents with their addresses, so you know where to find the best deal. The annual 5K race has a new name this year – “Truckin’ 5K”. The 5K race is followed by the Fun Fair and Business Expo on Saturday, May 18th. There will be so many activities for your children to enjoy – crafts, face painting, inflatables, entertainers, Touch-a-Truck, music and more! We’ll be hosting several summertime Park Parties, Movies Under the Stars, and Rockin’ the Ville concert events for you and your family to enjoy. We also have a great summer camp program that will keep your children safe and entertained while you work. More importantly, don’t forget that Thursday, August 1st, through Sunday, August 4th, brings the long awaited RomeoFest to town - music, carnival rides, entertainment, food, and lots of fun is sure to be had by everyone! Page through this brochure and make sure to mark your calendars for all of these events – many at no cost!
Some new things we have on the horizon include improvements to Murphy Park, which is located next to Safety Town. Construction began last fall with work being done on mass grading, layout, and concrete footings being installed. Some of the amenities will include a new picnic shelter, poured in place safety surfacing, several slides and play panels, swing set, and a climbing rock with a net component. This playground will allow access to people of varying abilities. Construction is anticipated to be completed by late summer.
This year we will also see the reconstruction of the Village Park playground located at the Recreation Center. Construction commenced this spring and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2013. New amenities will include poured in place safety surfacing, a two-tiered play area, new playground equipment, and a net climber.
While we are excited to put together a list of fun events for you and your family and make improvements to our parks, we also offer a variety of recreational programs for adults as well. Check out our fitness center and group fitness classes and make it a goal to get in shape. We also offer karate, taekwondo, tennis and more. A variety of trips for senior citizens is also offered and provides an opportunity for you to explore and meet new friends. Come on out and join us!
