The Romeoville Police Department encourages residents to register their bicycle information. This information will help with the return of your bicycle, should your bicycle be stolen and recovered by the Police Department as found property. A registration form is available for pick-up at the Police Department.

The Romeoville Police Department in conjunction with the Operation Child Safe is giving away free gun locks. Anyone meeting the following criteria that is interested in receiving a lock can pick one up at the Romeoville Police Department. The requestor must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid FOID card with them at time of lock pickup, and sign a waiver. Supplies are limited and will not be replenished.

The Romeoville Police Department in conjunction with area tow companies has developed a program for residents who want to rid their property of a vehicle(s) they no longer with to keep. If a resident has a vehicle that is operable or non-operable AND has the vehicle title, they may sign ownership of the vehicle over to a designated tow company. A fee of $50.00 will be charged by the tow company for removal of the vehicle. The title must be signed over to the tow company at the time of pick-up. Residents can call the Romeoville Police Department Community Oriented Policing Division at 815/886-7215 with questions or to make arrangements for vehicle pick-up.

The Romeoville Police Department maintains a database called “Resident Medical Program.” This free service, maintained by the Romeoville 9-1-1 dispatch center, attempts to identify and register individuals with special needs stemming from life-threatening medical conditions, significant physical or cognitive impairments, or extra-ordinary medical requirements. In an emergency situation, 9-1-1 operators rely on this database information to notify responding personnel of any special circumstances which may exist. Participation in the program is strictly voluntary.

By ordinance all alarm systems must be registered with the Village. There are penalties for not registering your alarms system with the Village. There are also penalties for false alarms. For more information please review the Village’s Alarm Systems Ordinance Chapter 96.

The Romeoville Police Department offers a vacation check service for Village residents. If a resident goes away on vacation a police officer can check their home up to three times per day to make sure it remains secure. A form must be filled out at the Police Department prior to departure.

The Romeoville Police Department has certified child passenger safety technicians. These technicians will help you install your child safety seat CORRECTLY. An appointment is required and can be made by calling 886-7219.

The Romeoville Police Department has certified crime prevention officers. By appointment only, one of these officers can come to your residence and perform a survey of your home security. Reasonable advice is given in order to make your home more secure.

Once per month an officer from the Police Department meets with the Romeoville Senior Advisory Council. The purpose of this council is to address concerns raised by senior citizens within the village. Crime trends and prevention measures are discussed as well.

Periodically the Police Department receives calls of elderly persons who have wandered away from home and have become lost. This can occur in all age groups for a variety of reasons to include alzheimers, or some other form of mental/physical disability. The Police Department has created a confidential database which contains the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and other contact information of persons who are entered. This will allow the Police to reunite lost individuals with their families in a timely manner and prevent unnecessary lengthy detentions. There is no age restriction on this program, however the individual enrolled must have some form of physical and/or mental disability that could cause him/her to become lost. To enroll contact the COP division at 886-7215. If the requestor cannot come to the Police Department, an Officer can go to their home to complete the enrollment paperwork. The whole process takes about 10 minutes.

The Romeoville Police Department sponsors two Citizen Police Academy classes per year. One class in the Spring and one class in the Fall. Each class runs 12 weeks and is held at the Police Department one night per week. The Citizens Police Academy classes instruct attendees on various law enforcement topics including criminal law, traffic stops and enforcement, and many other areas. While not a certification course, the Citizens Police Academy class gives students a basic understanding of current police practices in a wide range of areas.

The Romeoville Police Department is now accepting applications for our Spring 2008 Citizen Police Academy class.  A short application can be picked up or filled out at the Police Department.  All applications are due by 3/7/08.

The Romeoville Police Department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program. The Department has a police officer teaching full time D.A.R.E. to the 6th grade class at A. Vito Martinez, Lukancic Middle School and St. Andrew’s School. D.A.R.E. teaches children basic decision making skills and how to effectively deal with peer pressure in order to stay away from drugs.

The Romeoville Police Department offers free of charge, counseling services to residents. A licensed Clinical Social Worker is on staff full-time and can assist with family counseling, domestic violence and drug abuse. All services are strictly confidential.
