[ARCHIVED] NWCSRA: Nearly 50 years of Athletics and Activities for Special Needs

The Northern Will County Special Recreation Association (NWCSRA) recently gave a presentation to the Romeoville Village Board about the great work they have been doing as of late. They’ve been doing great work for a long time.

If you are unfamiliar with this organization, the NWCSRA has been serving those with special needs since 1976. Founded by Romeoville resident Georgia Wilson, the NWCSRA offers a wide variety of programs: athletics, day camps, a sensory oasis, and programs for both youth and adults. Through these opportunities, participants improve their self confidence and self-esteem, reinforce existing skills, learn greater independence, and build friendships and a sense of community.

“Whenever I see the people enrolled in the SRA programs, they’re always smiling,” said Mayor Noak. “Whether it’s when they’re dressed up in Halloween costumes at their annual trunk-or-treat or they’re running down the court in their basketball game against Village staff, they always look like they’re having the best time. That’s a reflection on the SRA staff and all the work they put in to enrich the lives of the folks that participate in their programs.”

The NWCSRA represents a partnership between the Village of Romeoville and the park districts of Bolingbrook, Lockport Township, and Plainfield. We are honored to have them headquartered in Romeoville and applaud the work they do. Learn more at nwcsra.org.
