[ARCHIVED] Will County Bikeway Plan Available for Review and Comments

BikewayPlan.jpg

The first ever Will County Bikeway Plan is now available for public review, and comments on the plan will be accepted through September 30.

After the public comment period ends, the plan will go to the Forest Preserve District’s Board of Commissioners for approval, which is expected at the November 10 meeting.

The bikeway plan identifies areas where non-motorized transportation opportunities can be expanded throughout Will County and beyond. Greenways, roadways and utility corridors were all reviewed as possible sites for bicycle access improvements.

While some bikeway corridors already exist in the county, a comprehensive planning guide was needed to improve clarity between multiple user groups and levels of government. The goals of the plan are to expand transportation choices, enhance connectivity, improve safety, enhance bicyclist comfort and promote bicycling benefits.

The bikeway plan was created in cooperation with the Will County Division of Transportation, which hosted 10 public meetings to gather input for the document as well as the County’s 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan.

The Forest Preserve worked with a variety of stakeholders including members of the public, elected officials and the bicycling community as it drafted the plan with the assistance of Chicago-based AECOM Technical Services, Inc.
