[ARCHIVED] Romeoville Historical Society is Putting Down New Roots

The Romeoville Area Historical Society received approval from the Village Board to convert an existing single family residence at 14 Belmont Drive into their new museum and office. The Historical Society is under contract to purchase the vacant property which is an 1,178 s.f. ranch home. The property is owned by the United Presbyterian Church and was used in the past as a residence for church staff and storage.

Conversion plans include opening up the interior to include abundant museum exhibit space and will also receive a facelift in the form of new windows, siding, walkways, a new roof and improved landscaping anchored around the existing mature trees. Additionally, a 400 s.f. addition to the east side of the building is also being proposed for extra exhibit space.

“The Historical Society is a great asset to the Village and they work very hard to collect artifacts and memorabilia,” said Mayor John Noak. “We anticipate the new exhibit space will encourage generations of citizens to learn more about Romeoville and the surrounding area,” added Noak.

Currently the Historical Society is located at 10 Montrose Dr. across from Murphy Park and adjacent to the Romeoville Fire Station No. 1.

The property will be closed on in the immediate future.
