[ARCHIVED] Controlled Burn for Haley Meadows

Haley Meadows Burn

A prescribed burn will be conducted in the naturalized storm water detention area south of Brassfield Avenue. The burn will be conducted sometime between November 1, 2017 and May 15, 2018, weather permitting. The natural area is outlined in the picture below. Prescribed burning is dependent on specific weather conditions, as such a more specific date cannot be provided.

Periodic burning of wetland and prairie vegetation is a standard technique for managing natural areas and is used by land managers, such as the U.S. Forest Service, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Will County Forest Preserve, and others. Prescribed burning releases nutrients into the soil, promotes seed and plant growth, and keeps invasive woody plants from shading out native grasses and wildflowers. This prescribed burn is part of the Village's ecological management plan for this natural area.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has granted V3 a permit to conduct this burn on behalf of the Village of Romeoville. The activity is permitted by the Romeoville Fire Department, who has received notice and will be contacted the day of the burn before ignition and after the burn is extinguished. The staff of V3 is trained in Wildland Fire Fighting, experienced with prescribed fire, and will conduct the burn in a safe and expeditious manner.

If you have any questions or concerns about this activity or would like to be contacted on the day of the burn, please call Keith Jones, Project Manager, V3 Companies at (630) 729-6207. If you have medical issues that would be affected by smoke, please call the above number so plans can be made to accommodate those medical needs.
