A Garage Sale Permit is required before any person holds or conducts a personal property sale, such as but not limited to, garage sales, basement sales, yard sales, porch sales, estate sales or auctions for the purpose of selling used household, clothing or any personal property items which are owned by the resident(s) on the premises.

Normally the permit costs $5.00, however the Village of Romeoville is waiving the permit fee at this time.

This permit is issued only upon compliance with the following terms and conditions:

• The permit shall be valid for not more than the dates indicated above, and in no instance shall be valid for more than three (3) consecutive days.

• Not more than two (2) permits shall be issued per dwelling per calendar year.

• The permit shall be valid only upon demonstrating to and finding by the Village that proper safety and environmental precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the general public.

• The permit shall be posted on the premises in a conspicuous place so as to be readily seen by the public and Village enforcement personnel.

• Any police or enforcement officer of the Village shall have the right to enter the premises showing evidence of a personal property sale for the purpose of enforcement or inspection. Village enforcement officials may close sale operations upon determination that a violation of the Village Ordinance exists and may arrest any person who violates any provision of the Village Ordinances and this permit.

• Any signs displayed in connection with the sale authorized by this permit shall not be placed on utility poles, street light poles, traffic signs and street signs.

• Any signs displayed in connection with the sale authorized by this permit shall not be placed in public right-of-ways and in parkways.

• Any signs displayed in connection with the sale authorized by this permit shall not be placed on property that does not belong to the permit holder, unless the permit holder has received permission from the property owner.

• All signs found posted in improper locations will be removed and the permit holder will be ticketed and fined $20.00.
