Don’t know what to do with your pumpkins after Halloween? Will County and Lewis University have partnered to offer the annual Will County collection of pumpkins for recycling.
Like Will County, the University wants to encourage more residents, businesses and schools to start composting. The Will County Farm Bureau and the Unv of IL Extension Office are once again joining the effort to offer residents a chance to give their Jack-O-Lanterns a second life through composting! Lewis physics students are offering a safe, no-contacct table near their CATAPULT for chidten and adults to place their pumkins and guords. People are invited to enjoy the fun and thrilling spectacle! A drive-thru document destruction service will also be offered to pair the shredding of paper with the shredding of pumpkins! Limit of 3 bank boxes per vehicle. Electronics recycling is also offered. Limit 2 TVs per vehicle. Everyone is invited to bring their carved or painted pumpkins to Lewis University's "W" parking lot on Saturday, Nov. 4 (the Saturday after Halloween) from 9am to Noon! Naked Pumpkins Only! No candles, bags or boxes! This is a chance for a decorative natural item to be recycled, as all the pumpkins collected will be taken to a site to be mixed and composted. Eventually they will become a highly nutritious soil supplement, feeding future crops, gardens - or perhaps a new pumpkin patch! Be part of the fun and bring your family or friends to see who's pumpkin flies the highest!
